‘Inner Sanctum’ – Vancouver Island Old Growth Forest Photography. Inspiration for me comes from Ancient Forests like the one you see here and more so the amazing Forest Defenders that are working tirelessly to protect these amazing places. I feel you haven’t really experienced a true forest until you’ve stepped foot in one of these last Ancient Forest eco systems. With the fight to protect the last Old Growth Forests on Vancouver Island there has been a lot of talk for this cause, but on the local political level with our current NDP government there has been mainly outright lies promising protection, while actual extraction is going on at an alarming rate. Many leaders and celebrities have used their voices to raise awareness for the cause but much of it is just Lip Service. I’ve never been one to be very inspired by celebrities or “leaders”, but what truly inspires me are people that take action with deeds beyond the Lip Service; such as the amazing Forest Defenders I’ve witnessed at the various blockades on Vancouver Island. These amazing eco Warriors have been fighting for this cause for well over a year now and fighting with everything they’ve got. They are not doing it for their own vanity, not because they have nothing better to do, not because it’s popular, but because it is incredible important to them down to their core! So much so that they risk being arrested, injured, pepper sprayed, and sexually assaulted, all of which has occurred and been documented at these blockades! Whether it be the harsh realities of the fight on the ground at the blockades or the legal system, they have so many odds stacked against them. The recent huge win having the injunction terminated was short lived, only to have it magically reinstated the following week with the appointment of a new judge! Through the rain, snow, heat, violence, abuse, the Forest Defenders still stand to protect these Ancient Giants, when our corrupt NDP government is so determined to destroy them with the help of our RCMP and on our tax payers dollars!
The beauty I see and the energy I feel when entering one of these last Ancient Forests is not something I’m good at articulating, but something I try to convey with my Art, which is capturing a moment and interpreting what my minds eye feels and sees, ultimately turning that into a printed piece of art for my collectors to enjoy and hopefully share in this passion to preserve these places. This Ancient Forest scene you see here while not on Vancouver Island, is an example of the beauty you can witness is these amazing places and i hope it can inspire you to visit one, and ultimately raise your voice with the desire to protect the Ancient Old Growth Forests of Vancouver Island. Should this print move you enough to add it to your walls, as mentioned with all my Forest Photography collections a portion of the proceeds with be donated to the legal defence fund created for the Forest Defenders from the Rain Forest Flying Squad. Beyond this i often will donate supplies to the blockades such as the Fairy Creek Blockade in the winter months when supplies and manpower becomes limited. Lastly stay tuned for another print auction where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to this cause! Thanks for ready this far, and viewing;
