‘Shinrin Yoku’ – Vancouver Island Old Growth Forest Photography. It has been proven scientifically through multiple studies that a walk in the forest or more specifically Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) exposes people to the highly beneficial effects of Phytoncides which are released from trees. These Phytoncides have been proven to increase NK cell activity which helps to kill virally infected cells, as well as detecting and controlling early signs of cancer. Phytoncides have also been scientifically proven to boost the overall immune system, lower blood pressure and heart rate, reduce stress, anxiety, confusions, and help with sleep while boosting creativity. Further research led by Vrije University Medical Centre in the Netherlands found that during a study of 46 participants that by just looking at still images of nature is enough stimulus to significantly lower our stress levels.
