‘Disruption’ Cape Disappointment Washington Coast – Two massive waves collide to create this intense explosion of water off the coast of Washington. These types of waves are created when one wave retreats after hitting the steep cliff, then collides with another massive incoming wave, resulting in these massive explosions! This was shot during a large swell and storm, combined with King Tides making for incredibly large and actually quite dangerous wave conditions. People have actually died shooting waves from this location, and at one point I had to run as all of the logs and debris around me started to pick up and move when the small cove became overwhelmed during a particularly large wave set, at the height of the King Tide. This is incredibly exhilarating to shoot mother nature in all her raw power during one of these storm systems! These wave collisions make for such stunning and naturally abstract artistic creations, with each one being dramatically different. Having the birds and the cliff side give some context and scale to the scene showing how massive this collision was! The scale and beauty of this particular creation really stood out to me.
