Product Description

‘Canadiana’ – Morant’s Curve, Lake Louise, Banff National Park. As a child I was fascinated with trains, and a lot of my spare time was spent reading model railroad magazines and building my own model railroad. Eventually it had mountains, tunnels, towns, bridges and everything you might find in a real railroad system that travels from town to town. I had always dreamed of traveling on a train one day, and one of the most iconic railway images that inspired this dream was of this very famous S curve in the Canadian Rockies near Lake Louise.  This famous scene is named Morant’s Curve, after the late staff photographer for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Nicholas Morant. His famous images of this curve and other sections of the Canadian Pacific Railway have been seen on Canadian Currency, postage stamps, Time Magazine, Life Magazine, National Geographic, and Readers Digest to name a few.  This was a very special shoot for me and spanned 4 days with the combination of waiting for the right light, conditions, and of course trains. Sometimes trains wouldn’t show up for hours, and other times they would be every half an hour. The other key thing is to get them coming towards you for the best composition. After many days and a tonne of patience I was able to come away with this very pretty scene you see here. I really like the uniformity of this particular train and set of cars, and loved how there was a little bit of light on the mountains in the background, as well as a fresh dusting of snow that you can see the train kicking up as it travels through the scene. I hope this image does the scene some justice and showcases a little piece of our stunning Canadian Rockies!
