‘The Guppy’ – Tillamook Air Museum, Tillamook Oregon. Sort of the ugly duckling of the aircraft industry, but I think I was able to capture this Guppy from its good side to show its true beauty! These Guppy air craft look more like a Fisher Price child’s toy than a real air craft, but their bulbous design makes them one of those most useful aircraft out there! These aircraft have been used by NASA since the 1960’s to transport oversized cargo which has always been a problem for logistic planners. The Guppies came in very handy in the early years of Americas ‘space race’ when they had to transport large rocket components, and traditional modes of transport or aircraft were simply not built to handle such large componentry. I definitely caught this Guppy on a good day with some nice soft light reflecting off it beautiful nose and propellers. In the background is Hanger B, a former US Navy Air Station. Hanger B was used to house Blimps and is the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world! This Fine Art print was created in the summer of 2022 at the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook Oregon.
