While exploring a backroad in the Callaghan Valley i came across this guy perched up on a small cliff about 10′ above me as well as his companion. I grabbed my camera to take a few shots and within a minute this guy had had enough of me! He made a couple grunts and started swatting at the branches in front of him. By no means did i want to upset him or get myself into a dangerous situation so i carried on my way. I would say 95% percent of the time black bears are so desensitized that they completely ignore you, but this guy was different. Upon further inspection of the image i noticed he had the top of his year bitten off as well, so i think he was a bit of a cantankerous old fellow. Based on my brief observation i decided to name this guy Scrappy Doo 🙂 I think it also turned out to be a really nice image with the lighting and the framing of the branches, as well as the old growth Douglas Fir in the background.
