Cape Disappointment Fine Art Photography Print. Cape Disappointment during winter storm season is an incredible location to witness these powerful Pacific storm systems that form way off-shore in the open ocean. This particular small cove allows you see the waves coming in and crashing against the 200’ tall cliffs and then as they recede they crash into the incoming waves making massive explosions. I had been here in the summer and it is generally as calm as can be, but in the winter and with the right swell direction, combined with a high tide, this place gets intense very fast. I shot this location over the course of 5 days with the 1st full day being the only day the sun came out as you see in this scene. It is definitely a perfect scene with the lighthouse, cliffs and massive waves, as well as throw in a few birds for scale. The cove itself is quite small but on days with the right swell direction is catches the incoming sets perfectly, allowing you to get a nice side profile to the wave action with the beautiful cliffs and lighthouse as the backdrop. This scene is a time blend to combine that morning light with some spectacular wave action. On the 4th day of shooting, we had one of the highest tides along with the biggest swells. It got a bit dangerous at one point where the cove filled up as a new set of massive waves came in crashing into the logs where we were shooting from, pushing them rapidly towards us! We quickly got out in time, but people have died in this location, so it needs to be taken seriously! This scene is hands down the most beautiful coastal scene I have captured and I cant wait to see this print up in our gallery! Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy Storm Catcher.
