‘Mountain Whispers’ – Chilcotin Mountains, British Columbia. British Columbia Fine Art Photography. An absolutely stunning historic Trappers Cabin nestled high in the mountains of the Chilcotins. This authentic cabin was built over 50 years ago, all with hand tools by a trapper from Tennessee. With the help of his trusty 150lbs Saint Bernard they cleared the land, dragging all equipment and materials up the mountain from a mining camp in a river valley well below the site. Upon completion he lived in the cabin for about five years, working his trap lines, eventually leaving the frontier life and moving back to Tennessee.
I found a hand written poem on the front door, here is what he wrote;
Welcome stranger to my cabin, if this way you shall pass. On the door there is no lock, so there is no need to break the glass.
You will find some kindling whittled neatly in the box. Build yourself a fire, as for wood there is lots.
Chances are that you are hungry, in the food cans have a look. Mine are simple eats but plenty, all you have to do is cook.
Use the bed if are sleepy, may your dreams all happy end. Heres to better luck tomorrow, my unknown friend.
