‘Gaslight Reflections’ – Gastown, Vancouver BC. This area of Vancouver is a National Historic Site, and is named after one of its first residents, Captain John Deighton who was an English Mariner and one of the first saloon keepers of the area. Because of his chatty personality, he was given the nickname “Gassy Jack”, and this area became known as Gastown. The area was declared an official townsite in 1870 and as i composed this very rainy and moody street scene i thought what it would have been like during Gassy Jacks time. I love the mood in this scene as it reminds of a oil painting portraying an old Parisian street scene.
