‘Bow Lake Bliss’ – Bow Lake, Banff National Park. Canadian Rockies Fine Art Photography Prints. A perfect morning at Bow Lake in the Canadian Rockies. After a crisp fall night of camping in the area, I was in position for sunrise, only to be skunked yet again! The whole area was socked in, and the peak wasn’t even visible. I’ve tried shooting this scene many times over the years, but seem to either have it completely socked in, or not a cloud in the sky, with neither scenario providing the light and drama that make for a captivating scene. I decided to pack up my equipment and head back to the camper for some breakfast. Within half an hour I looked out the window to see beautiful light and the peak of Bow Mountain now emerging from the clouds. At 6300, feet the lake itself is at a pretty high elevation, so having Bow Mountain nearing 10000’ it is pretty common to have it shrouded in clouds. I downed my breakfast and literally ran back to my original composition and got setup. Not only was Bow Mountain receiving some beautiful light, but the meadow and trees in the foreground had stunning soft light on them, bringing out the autumnal colours beautifully! The scene works based on framing using some of the larger spruce trees in the foreground and elevating myself up on a small hill to showcase the stunning colours of the lake as well as the small meadow and stream below me. The fresh dusting of snow on the peak is literally the icing on the cake! Thanks for looking and reading this far.
