Often intimate scenes within the landscape are some of the most compelling and contemplative images and artwork. Intimate scenes refer to a photographic style that focuses on small, specific details within the larger landscape. With a Grand Landscape they often present an obvious subject, whereas with an intimate landscape scene it encourages a deeper look as the composition sparks imagination, contemplation, and often a deeper connection. Intimate scenes usually exclude horizons and focus on patterns, textures, lines, light, and details. The aim is to create an immersive personal connection with the subject, and guide the viewer through the image allowing them to appreciate smaller details that would usually be overlooked. These artistic cues can also shed light on the artist’s interpretation of the scene and his experience while composing it. From an investment standpoint Intimate art is often more timeless thus offering better value long term. The examples shown here are some of Michael’s newest work and fit this photographic style of intimacy within the larger landscape. These were shot in the fall of 2025 at Abraham Lake in the Canadian Rockies. The backdrop of the turquoise waters of Abraham Lake create the perfect pallet to showcase these smaller autumnal details and colours.
